Collective Worship
Our school community learn through coming together for an act of daily worship.
Our daily acts of worship are:
Monday - Whole school core value worship
Tuesday – Reverend Nicky or class reflection
Wednesday – Open The Book worship presentation or God’s Big Story
Thursday – Whole school singing worship - praise through song
Friday - Celebration Worship
Collective Worship Day 1
Our school Core Values of friendship, making good choices, perseverance, peace, love and respect are central to our collective worship.
Monday’s collective worship is particularly focused on highlighting the value being studied each half-term. Celebrating life is our overarching value, which we share continuously as we celebrate the way in which our pupils achieve well and are fulfilled when living a ‘full life’.
We use pictures and news items to explore important themes and develop our understanding of British Values. Once a month, we are visited by members of the church who teach through their 'Open The Book' story telling.
Collective Worship Day 2
These assemblies are sometimes held in our smaller class groups as we focus on Big Questions. We explore themes linked to British Values and our School Values.
Every other Tuesday Reverend Nicky leads a whole school worship based on our school core value or events in the Christian calendar. Reverend Nicky also leads our Harvest, Christingle, Christmas, Easter and Leavers’ services in the village church.
Father Geoffrey leads our Remembrance service and teaches the children about its significance. Our oldest children and their families join the wider local community by participating in an act of Remembrance and laying a wreath at the Axminster Church Armistice service.
Collective Worship Day 3
God’s Big Story
A whole school worship taking the children on a journey through the stories in the Bible.
Collective Worship Day 4
We come together to sing praise and worship. We also take time to learn and practise our School Song, which reminds us of all our school values and curriculum threads.
Collective Worship Day 5 – Celebration Worship
Each Friday, we invite our school families to celebrate and support our pupils during our celebration worship. Each class teacher (and other adults in school) selects the children who are most deserving of ‘Star of the Week’ and Headteacher’s certificates. We also celebrate sporting achievements times tables accomplishment through awarding our times tables trophy. The attendance and team points trophies are awarded to the colour team are awarded to the winning colour teams of the week.
Our special assemblies and church services
Throughout the year, every child in our school is involved in leading a special assembly in our school. This is an opportunity for us to share with the rest of the school, parents and the wider community.
In the autumn term we join as a larger community for Harvest Festival, Remembrance Service, Christingle Service and Christmas Praise. These all take place either in St Andrew’s church or in our school hall.
During the spring term we visit the church for our annual Easter Praise service.
At the end of the summer term, we go to the church to celebrate and say farewell to our year six leavers as we remember their time at St Andrew’s Primary and wish them well as they move on to their chosen secondary schools.
